Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Commissioner Alma E. Anaya, State Rep Theresa Mah, Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez, and Alderman George A. Cardenas gathered with Rudy staff and students to celebrate the $80,000 grant awarded for our restorative justice programming.

Provoke Culture Collaborates with IJLA Students to Create a Beautiful Mural
The amazing artist Sam Kirk and her team at Provoke Culture worked together with IJLA students and alumni to turn a blank wall into a message of hope and possibility.

IJLA Students Lead the Newberry Library's Declaring Independence Event
On May 20th, 2021, IJLA students led workshops at a virtual Newberry Library event for over 60 community members. Students had been collaborating with library staff all year, engaging with Newberry collection materials, including American, Haitian, Venezuelan, and Mexican declarations of independence. With help from IJLA teachers and Newberry staff and scholars in the field, students used what they’ve learned to formulate their own personal declarations of independence.
IJLA Awarded Microgrant in Recognition of Work that Promotes Racial Healing
2/3rds United's Healing Illinois Micro Grants Selection Committee awarded IJLA a microgrant for its proposal to promote dialogue, encourage collaboration, facilitate learning, and seed connection to promote racial healing among black and brown communities.
